Dental sealants – St. Apolonia Dental Clinic

Sealing tooth fissures with sealants

When permanent molars erupt, the risk of decay is high. Chewing surfaces have deep, narrow grooves that are hard to clean with a toothbrush alone. Food debris and bacteria collect there and attack the still-maturing enamel.

To protect teeth from early decay we use sealants, a proven preventive measure. Sealants are a flowable resin material that fills the deep grooves of the tooth surface.

Why does it matter?

  • Caries protection
Once set, the material forms a smooth, slippery surface where plaque does not stick and brushing is easy.
  • Comfortable procedure
No drilling is needed: the tooth is cleaned, dried, and coated with material that is light-cured. Most children find it completely stress-free.

The best time to seal teeth is soon after eruption, before any cavity has started. It is a small investment that can help avoid complex fillings later.
