Oral hygiene and preventive dental care
Oral hygiene is essential to prevent caries and periodontal disease. During the appointment, the dental hygienist removes hard and soft deposits, polishes tooth and filling surfaces, and applies fluoride. This care helps keep teeth healthy longer and protects gums from inflammation.
We provide preventive care for both adults and children. For younger patients we offer fissure sealants; for adults we can perform teeth whitening or place a small tooth gem. Everything is tailored to your oral condition and wishes.
How is this procedure carried out?
The steps in the hygienist’s chair depend on your oral condition, but the flow is usually as follows.
- Assessment
We first examine the mouth and identify where plaque and tartar accumulate most. - Scaling
Using special instruments and ultrasonic scalers we remove hard deposits that contribute to gum inflammation. - Air polishing
With the Prophy Flex method we remove coffee and tobacco stains even from hard-to-reach interdental spaces. - Polishing and fluoride
We polish teeth and fillings and, when needed, apply fluoride varnish to strengthen enamel. - Protecting children’s teeth
To protect children’s teeth from decay we can seal the grooves of molars with sealants.
Additional aesthetic options
If you want a brighter smile after hygiene, we offer teeth whitening. It is a straightforward procedure performed in the clinic or with a safe take-home kit. We can also place a small tooth gem. We will explain all options at your visit and advise on daily home care.
